Some of the machinery ordered by Salini Contractor for the building of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, arrived in Port Djibouti.
Salini Contractor, a private industrial group specialised in the construction of major works throughout the world, secures the most important deal ever achieved by an Italian company abroad, signing a contract for the building of the biggest dam in Africa, the hydroelectric plant on the Blue Nile called Millennium, with a generation capacity of 15,000 Giga WH per year.
For this huge project financed by the Ethiopian government, Salini Contractor relies on Iveco Astra, namely the rigid dumper RD40 and RD 50 together with HD8 truck.
In particular, Salini Contractor is supplying the following Iveco Astra units:
- 40 x RD40
- 20 x RD50
- 25 x HD8 8x4
- 20 x HD8 6x4
According to engineer Simegnew Bekele, manager of the dam construction project, these imported machinery such as Iveco Astra RD and HD, would play a crucial role in speeding up the overall dam construction process of the Millenium dam, the first ever grand project in Africa.
